[Sober Living] Seattle’s Sobriety Resetters

No Smoking signs are a joke in Seattle. As I walked toward three people smoking at a No Smoking sign, I saw the one closest to the road blow smoke all over the sidewalk. Smokers like this infuriate me because they disrespectfully ruin public perception with negligent behavior, unaware of any pain they cause by forcing others from their sobrieties. Approaching fast, I kept my intense gaze burned on his eyes, walking closer, ever closer.

[Sober Living] Life Without Friction

My water bottle clanged on the floor. “Sorry a-bough-t that.[1][1]” I said as I swooped up the offending bottle in a half-dozed stupor. “It’s uhh-kay.” Would life be better without these sorts of embarrassing interactions? Without these grimy grimaces, how can we know what glittery glory feels like? Perhaps it would be nicer to be free of stress, anxiety, and worries over the thises and thats of life, but sometimes that friction leads to more!

[The Story] Building Up Lanada

How much of reality can we rely upon when building fiction? The movie Inception argues that you should create your dreams without external stimuli, otherwise it falls apart. While John [right] and Trishna [left] are purely fictional, the world of “The Story” is mainly based on our reality; it’s more broad constructive criticism than narrow escapist recreationism. That said, once something is named, even a fictional town like Lanada, it can become its own “reality.”

[The Story] Districts of Eville

If “The Story” uses Seattle, Washington, as a primary location for inspiration gathering, how closely should its fictional metropolis, Eville, emulate Seattle? You have the International District, University District, Pike Place Market, Space Needle area, “Pill Hill,” Fremont, SoDo, and many more highly-individualized locations that are each just a little different than its neighbors. Though they probably won’t admire the architecture, I imagine John [center] and Trishna [right] will enjoy adventuring through their big city!

[Rowing Machine] 2018: Week 22 {236.0}

My initial draw to rowing machines, and what keeps me interested, is their efficiency. Not only can doing four motions repeatedly instill lasting physical/mental discipline, they’ll also exercise most of your major muscle groups! Unfortunately, they’re not multi-tools. I’m always caught off-guard when an obscure muscle becomes sore. Though rowing is certainly a great cornerstone for anyone’s journey into weight loss, improved health, or casual warm-ups, it’s not the end-all. Which might explain the change…

[Rowing Machine] 2018: Week 10 {240.0}

It’s been close to a year now of weekly fitness updates, originally just purely essays and now featuring some technical or somewhat anecdotal fitness information, and I can now officially say that I’m regularly and comfortably tightening my belt loop one loop! I used the previous loop basically as long as I’ve has this belt, other than my 6 month, 60 pound weight loss period, along with its surrounding months, so it’s a huge achievement for me!

[Rowing Machine] 2018: Week 08 {241.0}

“Maybe it is all the heavy metal inside of you that shows on the scale[1]!” As much as I don’t want to be influenced by ephemeral external motivators, it’s still nice reading the occasional positive vibration. The number on the scale is just an external unit of measurement for my internal success: if I put on two pounds, but I feel as though I was more successful with my health, did I fail? Objectively? Subjectively?
