[Concert Review] Sabroso Taco Festival (2018)

A “taco festival” with only one vendor dedicated to tacos? Excelling in gluttony should be a priority for Sabroso Taco Festival, like noteworthy food festival Bite of Seattle, if they intend to overtake retiring punk rock festival Warped Tour. If music festivals are declining in ticket sales in the United States, new and remaining festivals need more diverse content enticing wider audiences that might otherwise only be moderately interested in music. Sabroso is nearly there.

[Concert Reviews] 1st Fall 2017 Review Compilation

This review compilation format is working out better than I thought! Considering the sheer volume of photos I take at concerts (366 photos, totalling 1.02GB), it’s easy just to upload my favorite photos from each band to TwitterInstagram has a terrible, mobile-only upload format, so I infrequently post there. It’s just too bad I took too many gambles on shows with only a few actually being worth attending. Guess you gotta give everything a go…

[Concert Reviews] Favorite Concerts of 2016

I didn’t see as many concerts in 2016 as I did in previous years. Maybe career development, working on this site, and an oversaturation of lukewarm concerts in 2015 dissuaded me? I did see some memorable performances in 2016, intend to attend new venues, and especially want to get outside my concert comfort zone in 2017.

[Album Reviews] 2016 Albums as I Heard Them

Since 2008, I’ve participated in a game of hearing as many albums released in that year as possible, and I’ve incorporated my own stipulations: no greatest hits albums with an unreleased song, no archival releases by posthumous musicians, and re-releases of albums officially released in another year don’t count. The complete list of the 104 albums I heard is over at my RateYourMusic account.

Day Map: #01 Behind the Scenes

As a fan of behind the scenes material included with most movies and the occasional album, I wanted to share the “day map” idea I made yesterday for a glimpse into some developing content. Starting at 9:30AM, I listed each intended project, marking each hour of the day with a different color, then digitally painted a big dot next to the title if I worked on it that hour. (Also had fun practicing oekaki techniques I’d learned years ago on a now defunct GroupBoard.)

Concert Review: NOFX (2016)

NOFX haven’t been in town for years. Some bands are always on tour and will reliably be in town every year at around the same time. (Metal band Korpiklaani even performed on the same date for two consecutive years.) Not being able to see a band for years can lead to a certain sense of longing and inflating anticipation, especially after hearing their live material. Do they suck live?
