[Concert Review] Pain in the Grass (2017)

Seattle radio station KISW hosts an annual all-day concert festival, Pain in the Grass, at the White River Amphitheater. This year’s eclectic performers, appealing to their fanbase or appearing in their programming, included Korn, Stone Sour, BABYMETAL, The Pretty Reckless, Yelawolf, and more. This outdoor event is similar to the Warped Tour, except there’s nothing to do except listen to music, or maybe sleep out on the lawn. Were the performances worth risking a sunburn?

Average Rating: ★★★☆☆ [3/5]

[C-C-Combo Breaker] 51 Day Combo

Gonna use a sick day.
I have some drafts but none are complete enough to use as a filler post today. I had some ideas for today’s post but the review was taking longer to write and another post needed more effort than I could expend. Should be back tomorrow. It was a good consecutive 51 days of posts. Better than 10.
Missed the 7AM cut off point, too.

[Rowing Machine] 66+49+78+76+50

Life is cruel if you let it afflict you. Life will beat you down with illness, emotion, and never-ending barrages of stress. If that’s what you allow. If you can train your body and mind to overcome minor illness, calmly react to negative emotions, and deflect stress, you can find your invincible summer. Rowing has helped me overcome some of that by letting me throw that anguish into something productive that helps me endure hardships.

[Concert Review] GUITAR WOLF (2017)

Guitar Wolf are fearless! They prove that if you pour work hard and sweat into your labors, you can achieve success on your terms. Though not selling out a 27,500-person capacity venue, selling out an intimate 200-person capacity venue that “normally doesn’t sell out on a weekday” is still an achievement, especially for their anti-conformist take on garage rock! If you can embrace their abrasive noise, they might be the best teachers of fearless motivation.

[Applied Psychology] Working Through Unmotivation

Even when we know our successes are completely based on the effort we give, and we fully understand the fragility of life, there are still days and moments where it’s difficult to put in the work. We get sick, tired, and lazy. It is easier to idle. That’s when I think about how wasted time ends up disappearing forever and writing during those moments where I’ve felt unmotivated have led to some really inspirational stuff.

[The Story] Respect Above All

“Dad, I want to include some bigger themes like respect when I write this story. What should I keep in mind?” “Respect is five times more important than anything else.” In this week’s brainstorming update to The Story, let’s explore ways that John (right, shaking hands with Trishna’s dad, Divit) and Trishna (left, not doing anything interesting for the photo) might learn respect, how that manifests in their relationships to others, and with themselves.
